Gwamba show to create over 1,500 Jobs

Gwamba Ruger concert

More than 1,500 Malawians are expected to earn an income when musician Gwamba brings Nigerian superstar Ruger to Bingu National Stadium for the “Landlord Pakwao Concert.”

The concert, scheduled for August 1, 2026, was moved to the more spacious Bingu National Stadium to accommodate a bigger crowd and maximise its economic impact, with Gwamba born Duncan Zgambo telling Malawi24 that the larger venue offers enormous potential to create opportunities for more people.

Organizers anticipate that the larger venue and scale of the 2026 event will allow them to exceed previous employment numbers, further boosting the local economy.

Temporary job opportunities will span multiple sectors, including security, vending, transport, stage management, ground runners, the organising team, as well as performers, band members and other event support services, creating income opportunities for more than 1,500 people.

The ambitious economic projection follows the massive success of his previous “Best of Gwamba” concert, which served as a significant catalyst for local economic growth.

Held on September 21, 2024, at CIVO Stadium in Lilongwe, that event attracted thousands of fans and generated 1,433 jobs across sectors such as security and event management.

Beyond the music, the concert is expected to demonstrate how the creative industry can create jobs, stimulate local businesses and bring communities together, reinforcing the growing role of entertainment as a driver of economic opportunity in Malawi.
