Students at the Catholic University of Malawi have been formally warned against entering hostels designated for the opposite sex, with authorities saying offenders will face disciplinary action.

In a memo dated 16 February 2026, the Acting Registrar’s office announced that opposite-sex hostels are strictly out of bounds for students who are not assigned to those residences.

The directive states that the restriction is part of campus regulations governing access to designated facilities and student accommodation spaces.

The university has also barred students from entering staff common rooms, describing the spaces as restricted areas reserved for members of staff only.

University authorities say any student found in the opposite-sex hostel or staff common room without authorization will be disciplined in line with institutional rules.

The notice urges students to comply with the directive and respect all restricted areas on campus.

The memo was signed by Acting Registrar Jimmy J Kayange and circulated to university management and student leadership, including the student union representative, indicating that enforcement will apply across campus.
