After an intense online mockery from the Zambian community to Ghanaians about the Fugu traditional outfit, which President John Dramani Mahama wore when he visited Zambia last week, Ghana and Zambia have signed a visa-free travel agreement. The agreement will eliminate visa requirements for citizens between the two countries.
It is expected that the agreement will boost tourism and trade between the two countries. The move aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 framework, which seeks freer movement of people.
This highlights that the state visit by Mahama to Zambia was fruitful despite the online mockery of his outfit, which looked like a blouse to most Zambians.
The online mockery has also led the country to designate Wednesday as Fugu Day in order to project the country’s identity.
However, the online mockery which Zambians threw at Ghanaians had sparked outrage from different quarters, urging Zambia to stop mocking other countries’ outfits and focus on laying to rest the body of the former President Edgar Lungu, who died last year.
