Ten foreign nationals are facing deportation or repatriation following a week-long enforcement operation in the Northern Region by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services (DICS).
The DICS arrested the ten foreign nationals during a sweeping immigration enforcement operation conducted across the Northern Region between 3 and 7 February 2026.
The operation, aimed at curbing illegal migration and safeguarding jobs and businesses reserved for Malawian nationals, covered Livingstonia, Rula, Chimunyanga, Bwengu, and Mzuzu City.
According to the DICS Public Relations office, those arrested include one Egyptian, one Turkish, one Indian, one Congolese, two Burundians, and four Rwandese nationals.
Out of the ten suspects, two were convicted for illegal entry and unlawful stay. The court fined them K25,000 each, and they are currently being held at Mzuzu Prison pending deportation.
The remaining suspects were found guilty of disobedience of statutory duties and were ordered by the court to be repatriated to Dzaleka Refugee Camp.
Meanwhile, two cases involving an Indian and a Turkish national have been adjourned to 9 February 2026. The two suspects have since been released on court bail.
The Department has reiterated its call to all foreign nationals residing or conducting business in Malawi to strictly comply with immigration laws and regulations, warning that failure to do so will result in prosecution and possible deportation.
