Following a horrific crash that killed a one-year-old boy and injured fourteen others on the Salima-Lilongwe road, police are urgently calling for heightened road discipline from all motorists.

Dowa Police Sub Inspector Alice Sitima confirmed the tragedy near Mvera yesterday, naming the deceased as Sean Banda from Kumpando Village, Salima District.

The accident at Khombe Village involved a head-on collision between a Toyota Hiace minibus (MHG 2500) and an oncoming fertilizer truck (BZ17214).

“The minibus veered off the road, overturned three times, and landed in a ditch,” stated Sub Inspector Sitima.
All victims were rushed to Mvera Mission Hospital, where the infant’s death was confirmed. The other injured passengers are still undergoing treatment.
With an investigation now underway, authorities have emphasized the importance of prevention.

“We are urging all road users to exercise utmost caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations,” Sitima emphasized, making this plea a central response to the disaster.
