Chiyembekezo Glyn Moses, Mayor of Mzuzu, led a Pre-Budget Consultation Meeting for the 2026/27 Fiscal Year on January 12, 2026, at Mzuzu Hotel, where he was joined by the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Joseph Mathyola Mwanamveka, MP.
This gathering not only brought together stakeholders to discuss priorities for the upcoming National Budget, but it also laid the groundwork for a brighter future.
In particular, key plans discussed included significant government investments in agriculture and industrial development for the Northern Region.
During the meeting, Mwanamveka highlighted major projects such as Mombela University, the Rumphi Water Supply Project, Mzuzu University Library, Mzuzu Airport, and enhancements to the M1 Road, all crucial stepping stones toward sustainable growth.
Furthermore, the meeting underscored the government’s commitment to inclusive and participatory budgeting, aiming to reflect community needs and aspirations like a compass guiding the way forward.
In light of these developments, Mayor Moses expressed confidence in the DPP-led government’s focus on Mzuzu City and the Northern Region as integral to the national development agenda.
