Kasungu District Health authorities have confirmed six cholera cases, with five of them being members of the same family at Gogode, Traditional Authority Suza, and one case from Muzoweza village in T/A Chilowamatambe.

The cases were confirmed on Saturday and treated promptly at their homes, according to Director of Health for the district, Emmanuel Golombe.

“We confirmed the cases yesterday [Saturday] and treated them right in their homes,” Golombe said, emphasizing the importance of swift action.

Golombe has urged communities to adhere strictly to hygiene and sanitation measures, while also calling on health workers to remain vigilant.

The district’s response is part of broader efforts to contain cholera outbreaks, which have been reported in neighboring countries, including Zambia.

Prevention and Control Measures

Cholera prevention involves ensuring access to safe water, proper sanitation, and hygiene practices, such as regular handwashing with soap.

Health authorities are also promoting community engagement and education on cholera risks and prevention strategies.

Staying Safe

To minimize the risk of cholera transmission, communities should prioritize proper waste disposal, use of latrines, and safe food handling practices.
