Parliament has uncovered weaknesses that could leave the institution vulnerable to corruption, raising questions about the safeguards meant to protect public trust.

The revelations are contained in a Corruption Risk Assessment (CRA) Report conducted with support from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

Speaking on Friday during a sensitisation workshop on the report at Parliament Building in Lilongwe, Clerk of Parliament (CoP) Fiona Kalemba said the assessment has given Parliament an opportunity to confront potential corruption risks head-on.

She urged staff to take collective responsibility for preventing corruption by upholding ethical standards and fully implementing the report’s recommendations.

“Understanding the findings and recommendations of the CRA Report allows us to be proactive architects of reform rather than reactive responders after the damage is already done,” said Kalemba.

Kalemba commended the ACB for supporting the assessment and for its continued partnership with Parliament in promoting integrity and accountability.

The workshop was organised to familiarise staff with the findings and recommendatons of the CRA Report.
