Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe has strongly condemned the resurgence of disputes surrounding the Chikulamayembe chieftaincy in Rumphi District.
Chikulamayembe said this during a press conference at his royal residence on Tuesday, the paramount chief called on the people of Rumphi to reject all forms of violence and resolve their differences through peaceful dialogue.
The Tumbuka traditional leader also urged the general public to respect Tumbuka cultural norms and established traditional leadership structures, stressing the importance of preserving the authority, customs and traditions of the chieftaincy.
He said peace and unity were essential to the development of Rumphi and urged all stakeholders to exercise restraint when addressing matters concerning traditional leadership.
Meanwhile, Secretary to the Royal Family Jolly Gondwe accused some politicians of fuelling the chieftaincy disputes for political gain.
Gondwe said the involvement of politicians in traditional leadership matters risked deepening divisions within communities and prolonging the disputes.
He has since appealed to President Peter Mutharika to intervene and help find a lasting solution to the wrangles.
