Ephraim Kondowe may be sitting at the top, but the Golden Boot race in Malawi’s elite FDH Bank Premiership is far from settled.
The FCB Nyasa Big Bullets striker leads with nine goals after the first round, just one ahead of Blue Eagles forward Tonic Viyuyi, while four other players are lurking on five goals.
Viyuyi has scored eight goals, with Lameck Mithi of Mighty Wanderers, Festus Duwe of Silver Strikers, Blessings Malinda of Ekhaya FC and Lucky Mkandawire of Moyale Barracks all on five.
Mithi and Duwe have reached their tally in 11 games each, while Malinda and Mkandawire have taken 13 appearances.
With the second round set to kick off in early October, Kondowe will have to protect his slender lead as the chasing pack looks to close the gap.
In the league standings, Blue Eagles lead the way with 31 points, followed by Bullets on 30.
Mighty Wanderers and Silver Strikers are third and fourth respectively, both on 29 points, while Moyale Barracks sit sixth on 21 points.
