Malawi’s Queens have joined the Scorchers on the road to the 2027 World Cup after producing another ruthless display at the Africa Netball Cup in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Queens sealed their qualification for the Sydney showpiece on Monday after crushing Nigeria 82-22 to make it three wins from three matches in Pool 2.
Malawi dominated every quarter, leading 21-6 after the first, 40-11 at half-time and 63-14 after three quarters before finishing with a 60-goal victory.
The result followed earlier wins over Zambia and hosts Kenya, meaning the Queens have gone through the group stage unbeaten ahead of their final pool match against Uganda on Wednesday.
The qualification gives Malawi two national teams heading to major 2027 World Cups, after the Scorchers reached the Women’s World Cup by finishing runners-up at the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco.
The Scorchers won four matches on their way to the final, beating Nigeria 3-2 in the group stage, before losing 2-1 to Zambia in their final group match.
They then defeated Ghana 2-1 in the quarter-finals and Algeria 3-1 in the semi-finals, before Cameroon beat them 3-0 in the final.
