Parliament’s inquiry into the Chikangawa plane crash is entering a fresh phase, with public hearings set to resume next week.
The Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee investigating the crash will continue gathering evidence as it seeks answers surrounding the June 10, 2024 tragedy that claimed the lives of former Vice-President Saulos Chilima and eight others.
According to a media advisory issued by Parliament on, the committee will hold hearings from Tuesday, September 15 to Friday, September 18,at Parliament Building in Lilongwe.
The committee said the first week of resumed hearings will focus on outstanding business from Phase Two and the transition to Phase Three witness engagements.
Among the issues scheduled for examination are flight records and the national response, eyewitness accounts from communities around the Nthungwa and Lusangazi forests, and police involvement in the search and rescue operation.
The committee said the next phase will broaden the investigation to include search-and-rescue activities in Lilongwe, Mzuzu, Raiply and Nthungwa.
Witnesses expected to appear during Phase Three include Malawi Defence Force commanders, Civil Aviation officials, telecommunications providers, drone operators, medical teams and community leaders.
