Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has hailed a High Court ruling upholding the decision to block his extradition to South Africa alongside his wife, Mary.

Recently, High Court in Lilongwe issued a 175-page ruling explaining its decision to set aside the extradition order issued in March 2025.

The court initially set aside the order on 31 October 2025 after identifying procedural and legal irregularities, including the denial of the couple’s right to be heard.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Bushiri said the court had agreed with concerns raised by his legal team, including what he described as a lack of evidence, the use of anonymous witnesses and the rejection of evidence considered hearsay rather than solid proof.

Bushiri also alleged that some police officers had opened fake cases against him and his wife to extort money from them.

He further cited xenophobic attacks they allegedly faced in South Africa, demonstrations at their church demanding their departure and petrol-bombing of church tents.

“We thank God for answering our prayers and thank everyone who stood with us throughout this journey,” Bushiri wrote.

The ruling upholds the court’s earlier decision to set aside the extradition order, meaning the couple cannot be extradited under that order.
