The Theatre of the Absurd: Why Kondowe’s Fallacious Crusade Against Nyamilandu Manda Defies All Logic

The public demand by activist Ceaser Kondowe for Walter Nyamilandu Manda to resign as chairperson of the parliamentary ad hoc committee investigating the tragic Saulos Chilima plane crash is a masterclass in political theatre.

To insist that a statesman must step down because a key witness, former Commander General Vincent Phiri, once supported Nyamilandu’s football federation opponent, is a logical leap so desperate it reduces grave national oversight to a circus.

Kondowe’s public rhetoric does not protect public integrity; it actively weaponises classic logical fallacies wrapped in faux-righteous indignation. When exposed to intellectual scrutiny, his arguments dissolve completely.

Kondowe relies heavily on a red herring fallacy, attempting to distract the public by pulling old sports grievances into a solemn national tragedy. The FAM presidential elections and a military plane crash investigation are completely unrelated universes. An ancient administrative rivalry on a football pitch cannot logically contaminate a parliamentary inquiry into a crash that claimed nine lives. Kondowe is trying to judge a solemn judicial procedure through the petty lens of a stadium scoreboard.

Kondowe’s argument collapses under the weight of its own guilt-by-association fallacy. To illustrate this absurdity, consider that Nyamilandu also contested the Mwanza parliamentary elections. If a supporter of his political opponent from that election possessed critical information about the crash, must Nyamilandu flee the chairperson’s seat yet again? Validating this standard establishes an unworkable precedent where any investigator can be neutralised by simply summoning a witness who once voted against them. It is a blueprint for institutional paralysis.

There is absolutely no evidence that Nyamilandu Manda and Vincent Phiri share any personal relationship, familial ties, or past business transactions. Kondowe employs a strawman fallacy, inventing a phantom conflict of interest out of thin air just to tear it down. He demands a resignation based on an imaginary web of corruption that exists purely within his own public statements.

By hyper-focusing on these petty grievances, Kondowe ignores the severe slippery slope his logic creates. Forcing a resignation at this delicate juncture would sabotage and derail a critical, long-standing investigation that has already interviewed dozens of witnesses and inspected wreckage. It would weaponise bureaucratic delays, hold national closure hostage, and waste immense taxpayer resources—all to satisfy a manufactured grievance.

Nyamilandu holds his seat based on parliamentary merit and the mandate of the House, not sports-club politics. To allow external commentary to dictate committee leadership based on the political leanings of a witness completely undermines the independence of parliamentary oversight.

Kondowe’s public statements are not an act of civic vigilance; they are a textbook exercise in institutional sabotage, trading national truth for a temporary headline.
