World Relief transitions to Impact Relief to deliver community – led solutions

World Relief in Malawi (WRM), a partner engagement organization, has localized into an entity called Impact Relief to advance World Relief’s legacy of delivering community-led solutions that build strong livelihoods and strengthen household resilience.

This transition follows alignment with the Malawi Government’s amendment of the NGO Act, which requires international NGOs to implement through local organizations.

Presenting the transitioning process of World Relief to Impact Relief to the District Executive Committee (DEC) in Dowa, Impact Relief’s Program Coordinator, Taonga Chipeta, said that in alignment with the Government of Malawi’s localization policy, the transition supports national priorities for local ownership, national leadership, and the sustainability of development interventions.

The programmatic priorities of Impact Relief, aimed at achieving holistic transformation, include agriculture and climate-smart initiatives, savings groups and economic inclusion, child protection, health, nutrition and WASH, youth and community resilience, as well as church engagement and community mobilization.

The Coordinator said the transition reflects a planned and responsible localization process; it is not World Relief stepping back from Malawi, but Malawi stepping forward with trusted systems, proven leadership, and strong accountability in place.

Going forward, Impact Relief will continue to advance World Relief’s 36-year legacy of delivering transformative development to Malawians, with World Relief remaining a key partner.

In his remarks, Chief Agriculture Officer, Directorate of Agricultural Services for Dowa District Council Japhet Zingani, thanked partners implementing their various interventions in the district for choosing Dowa as one of the impact areas saying the council is applauding and embracing the projects and initiatives being brought into the district.

Zingani urged partners and stakeholders to work closely with the relevant sectors within the council and these include Technical Working Groups.
