In the wake of unprecedented climate changes, Press Corporation Plc has taken a step to award Community Livelihoods Initiative Organization (CLIO) a borehole in Njereza as winners in sustaining nature through conserving the environment and planting trees in Chikwawa.

Launched in 2025, the initiative aims at sustaining, protectirestoringstoreural resources to lessen the global warming impact in Malawi.

Andrew Sande, General Manager for Press Properties Ltd, expressed satisfaction in the progress made by the competitors where the winner has gotten 89 trees for every 100 survival rate.

” We experienced tropical cyclone Freddy and many others where lives were lost. With these trees, we can protect our home from the adverse effects of global warming and cyclones,” Sande said.

On his part, Hector Mkawihe, Chikwawa Principal Forestry officer, emphasized the need to nurture the trees when planted noting the common trend of failing to track the survival rate.

He further urged the winners to conserve and ensure the trees survive to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Traditional authority Kasisi hailed the community members in their determination to conserve the environment but advised them to persevere as they are in the early phase of establishing the community organization.

‘I recommend the work done by CLIO in sustaining nature. I would like to appeal for support to these initiatives even helping us in the relocation of Njereza Primary school which was affected by floods’ Senior Chief Kasisi added.

Lucius Kholophete, chairman for CLIO expressed happiness when he received a borehole donated by Press Corporation Plc saying it will ease access to water in their work of conserving and caring for trees.

Library books and solar panels were provided to Mitole and Chikwawa secondary schools for the second and third winners respectively.

The competitors were CLIO from group village Njereza, Mitole primary and Chikwawa Secondary School.
