In a recent claim, former President of Malawi Joyce Banda stated that her first 100 days in office surpassed the achievements of any other leader who has governed the nation.

The fourth President to lead the country, Banda, stated that upon assuming leadership, Malawi faced numerous challenges, including fuel shortages, sugar scarcity, hunger, frequent power outages, and a foreign currency shortage, all of which she successfully addressed within her first 100 days in office.

The former President also said that when she assumed leadership, Malawi’s relationship with Britain had deteriorated, but she did everything possible to restore that relationship.

Banda, who is also the leader of the People’s Party (PP), said that when she took over leadership, the price of sugar had risen to K1,000, but she reduced it to K650, showing that her administration was focused on addressing the problems facing the people of this country.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the first 100 days of my leadership cannot be compared to those of any other leader who has governed Malawi,” she said.

It remains unclear whether Banda’s statement was in reference to President Peter Mutharika’s 100-day tenure, given the widespread accolades he received from most Malawians.

She served as President from 2012 to 2014 following the death of President Bingu wa Mutharika on 5th April of that year.
