DPP eyes alliances to boost September 16 poll chances

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has announced that it is in talks with other political parties on forming electoral alliances ahead of the September 16 General Elections.

The party’s Secretary General, Peter Mukhito, said the DPP’s doors remain open to strengthen its vote base and broaden its support across the country.

Speaking at Nsambeta School Ground in Lilongwe, Mukhito expressed optimism that the party is well-positioned to secure majority support from Malawians in the forthcoming elections.

He noted that the appointment of Justice Dr. Jane Ansah as the party’s presidential running mate has significantly boosted confidence in the DPP, particularly among women.

Mukhito said this decision reflects the party’s recognition of women’s contributions in national leadership and governance.

He further emphasised that the DPP remains focused on building strong alliances that will enhance its chances of reclaiming power.

The DPP’s strategy appears to be anchored on consolidating voter support through partnerships while projecting inclusivity and gender balance in its leadership choices.

As the September 16 General Elections draw closer, the party’s efforts to foster unity could be the determining factor in how it performs at the polls.
