Students across Malawi will soon have a chance to compete for fully funded secondary education, with scholarship registration and selection tests set to take place in all 28 districts.

The programme aims to identify 500 deserving students who will receive full sponsorship from Form 1 to Form 4, covering the entire cost of their secondary education.

Maranatha School says it will spend K24 million per student, translating to a total investment of K12 billion for the 500 beneficiaries.

“Our school fees are K2 million per term. Sponsoring 500 students from Form 1 to Form 4 will cost us K12 billion. We are doing this to support the government in improving education in Malawi,” said Kaonga.

Kaonga expressed strong interest in working closely with government authorities to help raise education standards in the country, saying private institutions also have a role to play in strengthening the education sector.

He further said the scholarship programme is one way of complementing government efforts to ensure more learners access quality secondary education regardless of their financial background.

Kaonga also warned that the school has no agents authorized to recruit students or collect money on its behalf. He said anyone claiming to collect payments in exchange for securing a scholarship at the school is a fraudster.
