Police in Blantyre have arrested three officers working at Blantyre Immigration Office for issuing a Malawian passport to two Pakistan nationals.
Blantyre Police Station spokesperson Elizabeth Divala confirmed the development but refused to give details as investigations are still underway.
However, Immigration spokesperson Joseph Chawuwa said the three suspects are Senior Officer-in-charge at Printing Section Rodrick Kapitapita and two Immigration Officers, Tamandani Andrew Hillary and Victor Maseko Phiri who were both working on the counter.
“Through our system we noticed that some passports that have been issued did not follow normal procedures then we instituted investigations which revealed elements of criminal acts and led to the arrest of the three officers”, said Chawuwa.
