Vice President Jane Ansah has taken a message of hope to cancer patients spending Mother’s Day in hospital, drawing on her own battle with the disease to encourage them.

Ansah visited patients at the National Cancer Centre at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe on Thursday, October 15, 2026, where she also pledged government support for those seeking treatment.

A cancer survivor herself, Ansah met patients battling different forms of the disease, including Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

“I just came to visit you on Mother’s Day, and the government is also there to support you to get tested and get better,” she told the patients.

She urged them not to lose hope, assuring them that they were not alone in their fight against cancer and stressing the importance of testing and medical care.

Kamuzu Central Hospital director Dr Amos Msekandiana welcomed the visit, saying it offered encouragement to patients and healthcare workers, particularly mothers spending the day in hospital.

Ansah also toured the hospital pharmacy, drawing attention to the need for access to essential medicines to ensure patients receive continued treatment.

Beyond the hospital visit, the Jane Ansah Foundation, founded by the Vice President, donated food items to nearly 200 guardians caring for cancer patients at the centre.

The donation was intended to ease the pressure on guardians who stay with their sick relatives during treatment while struggling to provide food and meet other daily needs.
