Malawian game developers, esports athletes and digital artists are set to showcase their talent in Blantyre, with some local creators also in line for scholarship opportunities.
The CyberExpoX event, scheduled for December 5, aims to connect local innovators with opportunities in the global digital economy while helping them protect their creative work.
Event coordinator Robert Cheleuka said preparations for the expo are complete, with this year’s edition expected to bring together established and aspiring game developers from Malawi and the region.
A workshop led by the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) will equip creators with knowledge on intellectual property and how to protect their work as they seek opportunities beyond Malawi.
“MUST has come on board as CyberExpoX’s newest partner and has pledged to offer scholarships to a few local developers who will participate in the event,” Cheleuka said.
The expo will also feature a panel discussion involving esports athletes, game developers and other participants from Malawi and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region to explore the growth of gaming and its business opportunities in Africa.
Organisers will present awards to creators of the best locally developed video games, cosplay performers and esports athletes in recognition of their contributions to the industry.
The event is expected to provide a platform for digital creatives to build networks, develop their skills and explore opportunities in the growing global gaming industry.
