The government has released K85.5 billion to local councils for development projects under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

According to a joint statement from the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Decentralisation and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, the funds were released to enable local councils to make advance payments to contractors awarded various CDF projects.

The release covers 30 of the country’s 36 local councils which have completed procurement processes and identified contractors for the projects.

The government says contractors are expected to mobilise and commence work at their respective project sites following the release of the resources.

In addition to the K85.5 billion for project implementation, the government has released K5.49 billion for project management costs and K2.86 billion for sports development, creative arts and innovation.

The statement further indicates that **K17.18 billion was disbursed to local councils in August 2026 for school bursaries, which are also part of CDF resources.

The latest funding comes on top of K15 billion released in April 2026 for youth and women loans, as well as K18.84 billion released between May and August 2026 for project management costs.

The government says the disbursement demonstrates that the implementation of the Reformed Constituency Development Fund is on track.

Treasury has also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that CDF resources are released to local councils on time and in accordance with CDF guidelines.

The government says this is aimed at ensuring smooth implementation of CDF projects and programmes while promoting prudent financial management.
