President Arthur Peter Mutharika has backed stronger ties between government and the private sector, saying the partnership could unlock faster development for Malawi.
He said closer collaboration between the two sides is key to driving investment, creating opportunities and improving the lives of Malawians.
Mutharika made the remarks on Friday after meeting representatives of the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
The President said government has maintained a close working relationship with the business community through the MCCCI, stressing the need for continued cooperation on issues affecting the country’s economy.
He particularly called for stronger collaboration in responding to the impact of El Niño, promoting trade and addressing other economic priorities facing Malawi.
MCCCI president Ronald Ngwira thanked Mutharika for granting the chamber an opportunity to engage with him and reaffirmed the business community’s commitment to supporting government initiatives.
Ngwira said the private sector is ready to work with government in responding to the effects of El Niño while also contributing to efforts aimed at boosting trade and economic growth.
