At 24, Moses Madalitso has been combining carpentry with adult education to build a better future. Now, a K50 million windfall could change the direction of his life.
Madalitso, a carpenter and adult learner from Thyolo, won the grand prize in the final draw of the Airtel Money Tola Promotion.
He received the K50 million cheque at Mathiya Primary School in Thyolo on Wednesday, bringing to an end the 12-week promotion which ran from May 13 to August 5, 2026.
For Madalitso, who comes from a poor background, the money means an opportunity to pursue his education while building a source of income for himself and his family.
“This being a once in a lifetime opportunity, I plan to start a business which can help me in my everyday life and when I employ someone, as I continue with my school, I will also bring an impact on my community,” he said.
Airtel Money Malawi Managing Director Thokozani Kamkondo Sande said the promotion had helped strengthen customer trust in the mobile money service.
She said the campaign also attracted more people to the network and encouraged responsible use of mobile wallets.
“As Airtel Money we continue to support Malawians, we continue to be a network for everyone and a reliable wallet in Malawi,” Sande said.
Sande said the company had also stepped up efforts to protect customers from fraud by educating them against sharing their PIN codes.
She said Airtel Money had introduced a Spam Alert AI system to help detect scam messages.
