A 13-year-old girl is receiving care after a 20-year-old man allegedly took her to a nearby bush and sexually abused her in Mzimba.

Police have arrested Adam Pearson, who is accused of committing the offence on September 1, 2026, at Wandoli Village under Traditional Authority Mtwalo.

Mzuzu Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Edson Chipeni said the incident happened around 7:30pm while the girl was preparing nsima at home.

According to Chipeni, Pearson approached the girl and asked her for cigarette papers. After she told him she did not have any, he allegedly forced her into a nearby bush where the abuse occurred.

Police said the suspect later gave the girl K1,000 and allegedly warned her against telling anyone.

The girl, however, reported the matter to her father after returning home. He took her to Enukweni Police, which referred her to Engucwini Health Centre for medical examination and treatment.

Police said the examination confirmed that the girl had been sexually abused.

Investigations subsequently led to Pearson’s arrest, with police saying he admitted to the offence during questioning.

Pearson, who is from the same village, is expected to appear in court soon to answer a charge of having sexual intercourse with a female child, contrary to Section 138 of the Penal Code.

  1. He should be punished because the girl will carry that for the rest of her life, I really appreciate the girl for telling her father it shows openness between them and the man should be greatly punished and being taught on how to control himself, young girls are the future and not to be viewed as powerless that people can be taking advantage of them. Men allow young women or girls to grow freely without having any trauma as they are living rather help them grow in ways they can support themselves e.g. at school or business than viewing their physical appearance as a target.
