Other players selected come from countries including Cameroon, Algeria and hosts Morocco, while Cameroon’s Valentine Nguelle has been named coach of the Best 11.

The recognition further underlines the Chawinga sisters’ influence on African women’s football and comes after the Malawi Scorchers made history with their performance at the tournament.

The achievement also adds to Malawi’s growing reputation in women’s football, with the Scorchers securing a place at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

WAFCON 11 means the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Best 11 a selection of the 11 outstanding players who performed exceptionally well during the tournament.
