Malawi could soon see more people turning to digital banking as financial institutions push mobile platforms as a faster and more convenient way of accessing financial services.
Finca Malawi is among the institutions driving this shift through its Tiyipemerere promotion, which is encouraging customers to use Finca Mobile for transactions while also promoting saving and access to business financing.
Launched in July 2026, the promotion has so far attracted more than 3,500 entries, with customers using Finca Mobile to participate and stand a chance of winning cash and other prizes.
Finca Malawi Marketing Manager Takondwa Chirwa said the initiative is particularly important for customers in rural areas who often travel long distances to reach physical branches.
“Finca Mobile is a very convenient way for them to make any transactions. We wanted to drive usage and encourage them to use Finca Mobile regularly,” said Chirwa.
The first draw has already rewarded 12 customers, with three receiving K300,000 each and nine others getting K100,000 apiece.
Among the biggest winners is Enincy Nyirenda, a shop owner from Mzimba, who said she could hardly believe she had won.
“This is my first time to win a prize at Finca, and the money will definitely help me in my business,” said Nyirenda.
Richard Makuluni and James Nkhoma were the other K300,000 winners.
Nkhoma, a bricklayer and businessman, said the unexpected prize would help him meet some of his business needs.
The promotion goes beyond the cash prizes, with Finca also seeking to encourage customers to develop a stronger savings culture through Phindu Savings accounts.
Chirwa said many customers run small businesses but still struggle to save part of the money they earn.
The campaign is also aimed at helping small business owners access financing, with business loans ranging from K500,000 to K34 million available to eligible customers.
Finca has set aside K9 million in prizes for the promotion, with monthly prizes being awarded throughout the campaign and a grand prize planned at the end.
