The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi has described the late broadcaster and journalist Brian Banda as a dedicated, enthusiastic and hardworking media professional who has  left a lasting legacy in Malawi’s journalism industry.

Speaking to Malawi24, MISA Malawi Chairperson Felix Washoni said Banda distinguished himself through his unique interviewing style and ability to extract valuable information from his sources.

“When he was doing his programmes, he was cheerful. He had a talent of getting information from his interviewees,” said Washoni.

Washoni said Banda’s contribution to journalism will be remembered, particularly for his professionalism, hard work and distinctive approach to interviewing.

Meanwhile, Washoni has urged upcoming and young journalists to learn from Banda’s career, saying the late journalist started from humble beginnings before rising through the ranks of the media industry.

“We ask the upcoming journalists to wait for their time, work professionally and promote media independence,” he said.

Banda’s death has drawn messages of condolence from colleagues and media organisations, with many describing him as a passionate journalist.
