The National Registration Bureau (NRB) will commence Phase 3 of the National Birth Registration Campaign, targeting Malawian children under 16.
The 10-day exercise from 8th to 17th July 2026 will target Mzimba North, Mzuzu City, Lilongwe City, and Lilongwe Rural West.
According to NRB’s public statement signed by Principal Secretary Patrick Machika, the campaign seeks to ensure every Malawian child is registered and issued with a birth certificate.
NRB also said Phase 3 will include registration of citizens aged 16 and 17 for national IDs and parents or guardians must register children under 16 at government primary schools.
Citizens aged 16 and 17 are required to visit the nearest Teacher Development Centre (TDC) for national ID registration.
For child registration, an informant with a national ID must present the IDs or ID numbers of the child’s parents and those applying for a national ID must be accompanied by one parent or two community witnesses with national IDs.
The bureau indicated that birth certificates and national IDs will be printed and distributed after completion of each phase.
