Access to business loans, savings and digital banking could improve for many Malawians after FINCA Malawi launched a K9 million promotion aimed at rewarding customers while supporting financial growth.

The three-month campaign, dubbed “Tiipemelele ndi FINCA,” seeks to encourage more people to borrow, save and embrace digital banking as the microfinance institution expands its financial services across the country.

Speaking during the launch in Blantyre, FINCA Malawi Marketing Manager Takondwa Chirwa said the campaign brings together the institution’s Business Loans, Phindu Savings and FINCA Mobile products under one promotion designed to empower customers.

“We want to empower our customers who are in small businesses for them to be able to get loans and use them for building their businesses, whether to capitalize or to pay their operational costs and maybe buy stock,” said Chirwa.

The campaign comes as many small and medium-sized businesses continue to face rising operating costs and limited access to affordable financing. FINCA says it supported more than 30,000 customers with business loans in 2025 and plans to increase that number to over 50,000 this year.

According to Chirwa, customers applying for business loans will continue to benefit from quick processing, with loan application feedback provided within 48 hours and approved loans disbursed within five working days.

The promotion has a total prize pool of K9 million, with customers standing a chance to win monthly cash prizes of K100,000 and K300,000, branded merchandise, and grand prizes of K1.2 million for three winners at the end of the campaign.

To qualify, business loan customers must apply for loans during the promotion period, while new Phindu Savings customers must open an account and existing customers must deposit at least K20,000. FINCA Mobile users will qualify by making transactions of at least K5,000, including bill payments, transfers and loan repayments.

The promotion also targets former customers, allowing previous business loan clients who left in good standing and inactive Phindu Savings customers to return and participate.

Chirwa said FINCA is also using the campaign to encourage wider adoption of digital banking following major upgrades to FINCA Mobile.

Customers can now pay ESCOM and Blantyre Water Board bills through the mobile platform, while inter-bank transfers have been expanded to include Standard Bank and Centenary Bank, joining National Bank, FCB, FDH, NBS and VisionFund.

“For the longest time most customers knew us as a lending microfinance institution, but now we are a deposit-taking microfinance institution. We want our customers to build a disciplined savings culture and also embrace digital financial services,” she said.

The Tiipemelele ndi FINCA promotion runs from July to September, with customers able to participate through any FINCA branch, FINCA agents or the FINCA Mobile platform.
