Malawians in Ireland are bracing for a night that promises more than music, as two local crowd-favourite performers prepare to turn Dublin into a home away from home.

Popular music acts Bwede and Gibo Pearson are expected to headline the Independence Day celebrations set for Dublin, where excitement is already rising ahead of the cultural night scheduled for July 4, 2026.

In a telephone interview with Malawi24, Henry Mkumbira Phiri, Chairman of the Association of Malawians in Ireland, explained that the artists were tapped specifically for their cultural resonance.

“We have incorporated Gibo and Bwede because they are a real taste of our Malawian music and culture,” Phiri said.

Beyond the music, the event carries a deeper community focus operating under the theme: “Celebrating Heritage, Empowering Communities, Building Partnerships.”

The upcoming celebration is a collaborative effort organized by the Association of Malawians in Ireland in partnership with Mehdi & Jones of Starlight Production.

The 2026 event will mark the latest installment of what has become a staple cultural gathering, with the association successfully hosting similar Independence Day festivities since 2021.
