UTM president Dalitso Kabambe says the late Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima left behind an unfinished national story that still resonates with many Malawians.

Speaking at a memorial mass at Nsipe Ground in Ntcheu, Kabambe said for a generation of Malawians, Chilima restored belief in the country’s future and his death is “a story hanging while we were still watching it.”

The UTM leader said dreams do not die and ideas do not perish, adding that the responsibility now rests with those left behind.

Kabambe further said the mausoleum where Chilima rests has become more than a burial site, saying it is now a place where responsibility begins.

He further said the Musolium continues asking a direct question to the nation, “Will you continue to believe? Will you continue to build? Will you continue to strive, dream, and say Malawi can change?, highlighting that if Malawians stop believing then it means many misunderstood him,

“Chilima was never meant for surrender. He was built for possibility and purpose.” Kabambe Attributed.

The late Vice President, popularly known as SKC, had his life cut short in a plane crash at Nthungwa Hill in the northern Malawi Nkhatabay district when he and eight other officials were on their way to the funeral of Ralph Kasambara in the district.

SKC rose to prominence as a corporate executive before entering politics in 2014 and assumed the vice presidency with two different heads of state.

A Political analyst Thomas Mhango told the local media that Chilima’s impact went beyond policy. “He gave people permission to imagine a different Malawi.”
