Malawians facing food insecurity and disaster impacts will benefit from a donation of assorted food relief items by the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The donation, which includes cooking oil, milk, beans, maize flour, and cereals, was handed over during an official ceremony in Lilongwe.
Speaking at the event, Egyptian Ambassador to Malawi Rasha Hamdy said Egypt remains committed to partnering with Malawi to reduce vulnerability and build resilience against the impacts of climate change, including droughts and floods that continue to affect food security.
“This food assistance goes beyond humanitarian support and represents the spirit of African unity, mutual assistance and shared responsibility,” Hamdy said.
Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Roza Fatch Mbilizi welcomed the donation describing it as both timely and critical to addressing immediate food needs.
“As government, we are grateful to witness the handover of assorted food items. This donation will go a long way in addressing humanitarian needs of food insecure and disaster affected households in the country,” Mbilizi said.
