For 256 children living with painful orthopedic conditions, hope of walking, playing and living without disability now depends on a new K400 million fundraising campaign.

Sparc Systems Limited and Beit-CURE Children’s Hospital of Malawi have launched the drive to raise funds for life-changing corrective orthopedic surgeries, offering hundreds of children a chance at a healthier future.

The initiative, unveiled during a press briefing held at the Sparc Complex in Lilongwe on Thursday, seeks to raise funds for surgeries and rehabilitation services for children currently on Beit-CURE’s waiting list during the 2026/2027 fiscal year.

Launched under the theme “Renewing Hope: One Child, One Surgery, One Future,” the campaign aims to address a critical healthcare need affecting hundreds of children whose conditions limit their mobility, education, and quality of life.

According to the partners, every MK2.5 million raised will fund surgery and post-operative rehabilitation for one child, offering an opportunity to walk, run, attend school, and participate fully in everyday life.

Speaking at the launch, Wisely Phiri, Executive Director for Sparc Systems Limited which is serving as the official sponsor of the initiative, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to creating lasting social impact through strategic investments in healthcare.

“At Sparc Systems, we believe in investing in Malawi’s brightest future. Our partnership with Beit-CURE is a testament to our commitment to corporate social responsibility and our desire to drive sustainable change by eliminating the surgical waiting list for these 256 children,” said Phiri.

The company says it remains committed to leveraging innovation, partnerships and social investment to improve the lives of vulnerable children across the country.

Beit-CURE Children’s Hospital representative Rhoda Jura Kriek described the campaign as a timely intervention for children whose lives could be transformed through relatively simple surgical procedures.

“These children are waiting for surgeries that will change their lives forever. With Sparc Systems as our official partner, we are reaching out to the corporate community and the public to help us turn this hope into reality,” she said.

To meet the MK400 million target, the campaign will be anchored by two flagship fundraising events. An Annual Charity Golf Tournament is scheduled for August 29, 2026, in Blantyre, with organizers targeting MK200 million. A Fundraising Gala Dinner will follow in Lilongwe in September, with a similar fundraising target.

The two institutions say the campaign represents a collective call to action for businesses, development partners and the public to help bridge the gap between need and access to specialized pediatric care.
