ASMIS boosted Malawi’s visibility in Africa’s Social Media Economy – KBG
Kelvin Before Gumbi (KBG), CEO and host of ZaNyImbo TV, credited the African Social Media Influencers Summit (ASMIS) a few days ago in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for boosting Malawi’s visibility on the continent.
ASMIS brought together influencers and media voices from over 30 African countries under the theme “Influencing for a Better Africa,” with Malawi represented on the platform as a chosen representative.
KBG said the summit was not just a conference but a gathering of key African digital storytellers shaping a new narrative.
KBG added that the conversations at ASMIS centered on practical influence and growth, including the role of AI in storytelling and the economics of African content.
He said these discussions matter because brands and platforms increasingly look for trusted voices with reach, authenticity, and continental credibility.
According to KBG, the trip also opened new networking opportunities that can translate into collaborations and brand deals for Malawi’s creator economy.
He noted that Malawians are still underrepresented in many regional creator conversations, but that ASMIS helped place KBG and Malawi more clearly on the African digital influence map.
KBG concluded that such trips help close a long-standing gap for Malawi, proximity to the deals, decision-makers, and platforms shaping how Africa is seen and how digital content careers are built, positioning Malawi for more opportunities going forward.
