Human rights activist Chimwemwe Mbeya Mhango Ntchindi has called for a thorough investigation into allegations made by computer expert MacFarlane Ngwirinji concerning the September 16, 2025 General Election.
Speaking to Malawi24 on Friday, Mhango said the claims raised by Ngwirinji are serious and should not be ignored, stressing that the integrity of elections is critical to the country’s democratic governance.
According to Mhango, any attempt to manipulate an election undermines citizens’ right to freely choose their leaders and erodes public confidence in democratic institutions.
He said authorities and relevant stakeholders should establish the facts surrounding the allegations to ensure accountability and protect the credibility of future elections.
Mhango also questioned the apparent silence of some electoral stakeholders and civil society organisations, arguing that issues touching on the electoral process deserve public scrutiny and attention.
“Elections determine the future of a nation. Allegations of this nature should be treated seriously and investigated thoroughly,” he said.
His remarks follow claims made by Ngwirinji during a YouTube interview in which he alleged that there were efforts to influence the outcome of the 2025 elections through various unlawful means.
Ngwirinji further claimed that the alleged plans failed and that the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and its leader Lazarus Chakwera lost the election to President Peter Mutharika and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
He also alleged that he has since faced financial difficulties and threats following his public disclosures.
Meanwhile, MCP spokesperson Dr Jessie Kabwila acknowledged that Ngwirinji had previously worked with the party but dismissed the allegations of election rigging.
Kabwila challenged Ngwirinji to produce evidence to substantiate his claims, maintaining that the accusations remain unproven.
