Malawi’s much-publicised fertiliser manufacturing plant in Dowa remains idle after failing to secure environmental approval, delaying plans to begin production this year.
Businessman Napoleon Dzombe said the factory was expected to start producing fertiliser in April, but operations cannot commence until the Malawi Environmental Protection Authority (MEPA) grants the required licence.
MEPA spokesperson Aubren Chirwa told one of the local media that the authority’s board of directors must first assess environmental concerns before making a decision, a process that involves several stages.
Malawi heavily relies on fertiliser produced outside Africa.

If he was an Indian they would have given him the required clearance long time ago.
