Leader of Parliament Jappie Mhango on Friday said this week’s parliamentary sessions have reflected a positive and cooperative spirit, with government and opposition members engaging constructively on key issues, including the national budget.
Speaking to journalists at Parliament, Mhango described the debates as smooth and productive, emphasizing that MPs from both sides contributed to meaningful discussions.
“Overall, I would say that the week has gone very, very well,” Mhango said. “Debates, particularly on the budget, have been positive, with support from both government and opposition members.”
He noted that opposition contributions were largely agreeable, with no major objections, and that both sides maintained professionalism throughout the week’s proceedings.
Mhango also highlighted that committee work and other parliamentary matters progressed without disruption, further contributing to an effective legislative week.
He described the week as a strong example of functional democracy in action, praising MPs for constructive engagement and adherence to parliamentary procedures.
The Leader of Parliament concluded that the cooperative interactions set a promising tone for upcoming sessions, demonstrating that collaboration can drive legislative progress in Malawi.
