A 32-year-old woman has shocked medical staff and her community after delivering a 250-gram stone at Matandani Mission Hospital in Neno District.
James Wayile, the hospital’s senior administrator, confirmed the unusual case, stating that the incident occurred yesterday when the woman arrived at the facility together with her husband.
He said the woman, who comes from Chilombo Village under Traditional Authority Chekucheku, appeared heavily pregnant and was showing signs consistent with the onset of labour.
Wayile explained that medical personnel immediately took her to the labour ward for closer monitoring and assistance.He added that after further examination, the woman unexpectedly delivered a stone through what appeared to be a natural birthing process.
The hospital administrator said the stone weighed approximately 250 grams, leaving both the family and the health workers astonished.
According to Wayile, the woman has since been referred to the district’s main hospital for further medical assessment and evaluation.
He noted that specialists are expected to investigate the cause of the rare condition and determine whether any underlying health complications may have contributed to the incident.
Health officials have also indicated that they will monitor the woman closely to ensure her safety and recovery.
The case has since drawn widespread attention in Neno, with many community members expressing shock and seeking explanations from medical professionals.
