Government suspends three senior officials amid ongoing investigations

Daudi Suleman

In a rare move signaling intensified scrutiny of public institutions, the government has suspended three senior officials pending investigations into undisclosed matters.

Chief Secretary to the Government, Justin Saidi, confirmed the suspensions of Daud Suleman, Director General of the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), George Kasakula, Director General of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), and Humfrey Mdyetseni, Chief Executive Officer of the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF).

Speaking to Malawi24, Saidi explained that details of the investigations are being withheld to protect the integrity of the process.

“If we reveal the nature of the investigations, we risk jeopardising the entire process. However, our officers are already working in the three offices to carry out their duties,” he said.

The suspensions, coming at a time when public trust in government institutions is under heightened scrutiny, have sparked widespread speculation.

Observers suggest that the move reflects a growing commitment by the government to ensure accountability at the highest levels of the civil service.

While the specific reasons for the investigations remain confidential, Saidi assured the public that more information will be released once the investigations are concluded.

The suspended officials are expected to fully cooperate with the investigative teams.
