For years, the Mitochi family in Balaka has watched their three children struggle with severe physical disabilities, carrying a daily burden of care that often felt heavier than their strength could bear.
However, Saturday was more than just an ordinary day for the family, it marked a turning point when a rare moment of relief broke through years of hardship, restoring a smile they had long forgotten amid the daily struggle of caring for their three children with severe disabilities.
Representatives from the Jane Ansah Foundation visited Mitochi family to extend assistance to the family after learning of their situation.
The couple said the children’s condition was fully understood after a hospital examination, where doctors established that they are unable to sit without support due to weak skeletal bones, leaving the parents with constant and demanding care responsibilities.
“This is what we are dealing with as a family,” Mr. and Mrs. Mitochi stated, highlighting the pressure on both their scarce resources and emotional strength.
The Foundation learned of their situation during a community outreach in Rivirivi under Traditional Authority Nsamala in November 2025.
On that occasion, Lewis Kamundi, Director of Operations for the Foundation, spoke with the Mitochi family and reviewed the difficulties of looking after three children with disabilities under challenging circumstances.
After the review, the Foundation returned on Saturday, 13th June, to deliver urgent support.
The household was given relief supplies, including soybean pieces, maize flour, diapers, cooking oil, a football, kamba, and cash to help cover their everyday needs.
The Mitochis also shared the grief of losing their firstborn child at a time when the home had no food and no way to obtain essentials.
Lewis Kamundi offered his condolences and restated the Foundation’s dedication to assisting vulnerable families across Malawi.
Mitochi thanked the Jane Ansah Foundation and its founder for extending compassionate help when it was most needed.
