Government has thrown a challenge at UTM Party leader Dalitso Kabambe, demanding proof of corruption and nepotism allegations against President Peter Mutharika’s administration.
Information and Communications Technology Minister Shadric Namalomba has challenged Kabambe to take his claims to the relevant authorities if he has evidence of wrongdoing.
Namalomba dismissed the opposition leader’s criticism as politically motivated and unsupported by evidence, defending the government’s handling of the economy.
He pointed to a drop in the fiscal deficit from 12.5 percent to nine percent of gross domestic product, arguing that the figures reflect progress under Mutharika’s administration.
Namalomba also cited a decline in annual inflation from 28.7 percent in September 2025 to 20 percent in August 2026.
The minister said the government was working to address longstanding economic challenges inherited before Mutharika returned to power.
However, the economic figures come amid continued political disagreements over the cost of living and the government’s management of public affairs.
While the administration points to improvements in key economic indicators, opposition leaders continue to question its record and raise concerns about governance.
Namalomba’s challenge now puts the focus on whether Kabambe will present evidence to support his allegations or take his concerns to the relevant authorities.
