Machinga District Council management has taken its officers to task over persistent lateness and failure to follow the prescribed dress code.
In an internal memo dated 12 August 2026, Machinga District Commissioner Martha Magreta Sineta said management had noted that some officers were reporting for duty after the official reporting time of 7:30am.
The memo also highlights concerns over staff members reporting for work in attire that does not meet the standards outlined in the Malawi Code of Ethics and Conduct for Public Servants.
“As a Local Government Institution, the Council is committed to providing quality, timely and professional services to the public,” reads the memo.
Management said the conduct, appearance and punctuality of every staff member contribute significantly to the image of the council and the confidence the public has in its services.
The council has since reminded all officers to uphold high standards of punctuality, personal presentation and professionalism at all times.
It stressed that council employees are the face of government in the district and must conduct themselves accordingly.
The council said the reminder is part of efforts to improve service delivery and restore public trust in local governance structures.
