K120 million for one party? Yes, you read that right. And you thought your birthday was expensive? The bigger question is: have you got your invitation card?

While some Malawians are struggling to afford a birthday cake, Doll Mabel is preparing to blow K120 million on one night of partying, with guests told to put on masks before stepping into the lavish celebration.

Khonje, who finished third in the 2004 Miss Malawi competition and has previously hosted the pageant, says her birthday bash will take place at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe on Friday, August 14.

Dubbed “A Love Song by Doll Mabel,” the event is expected to attract celebrities, prominent personalities and professionals from various sectors.

Khonje, who is based in the Netherlands, says the party will be one of the biggest celebrations to take place in Malawi this year.

“This is a party that I organise every year to celebrate my birthday. This year, the party will be held here at home in Malawi,” she told the local media.

But it is not just the staggering K120 million budget that has caught attention.

Guests attending the party have been instructed to come wearing masks, with Khonje saying the unusual dress requirement is linked to a special message behind the celebration.

For one night, the champagne may flow, the masks may stay on, and K120 million will be spent celebrating one birthday.
