The FDH Bank Premiership title race took another intriguing turn on Saturday as week seven got underway with leaders Mighty Wanderers and fellow title contenders Silver Strikers both dropping points, while Mafco FC produced the standout performance of the day with a commanding victory over GC Dedza Dynamos.

After entering the weekend level on 13 points alongside Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles, Mighty Wanderers had an opportunity to strengthen their grip at the summit.

Instead, the Nomads were forced to settle for a dramatic 1-1 draw against Ekhaya FC at Mpira Stadium.

Ekhaya stunned the league leaders when Blessings Malinda struck deep into first-half stoppage time, putting the visitors on course for a famous victory.

Wanderers, however, showed their resilience and salvaged a point through Promise Kamwendo, who found the equaliser in added time at the end of the match.

The result keeps Wanderers at the top on 14 points, but only on goal difference.Silver Strikers also failed to take full advantage in the title race after being held to a 1-1 draw by Civil Service United at Civo Stadium.

Righteous Banda handed the hosts an early lead in the 15th minute before Charles Chipala restored parity for the bankers in the second half. Silver move level with Wanderers on 14 points but remain second because of an inferior goal difference.

The biggest statement of the day came from MAFCO FC, who cruised to a convincing 3-0 victory over struggling GC Dedza Dynamos at Chitowe Stadium. Zikani Sichinga broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time before Blessings Mofolo struck twice in the final 13 minutes to complete an emphatic win.

The result boosts MAFCO’s momentum and deepens the concerns for Dedza Dynamos, who remain trapped in the lower reaches of the table.Saturday’s results have left the championship race finely balanced.

While Wanderers and Silver Strikers occupy the top two positions on 14 points, both sides may view the dropped points as missed opportunities, especially with Blue Eagles and Masters FC still within touching distance and holding games in hand.

At the opposite end of the standings, the pressure continues to mount on Dedza Dynamos and bottom-placed Creck SC as the battle to avoid relegation begins to take shape.

With several contenders still to play in week seven, Saturday’s action reinforced one reality: the 2026 FDH Bank Premiership remains one of the most competitive title races in recent memory.
