Duties and Responsibilities
- Uphold uniform fire safety standards across the three fire response teams (Security, Agriculture, Manufacturing), keeping each ready to respond.
- Coordinate fire drills, evacuation exercises and emergency response scenarios and record outcomes and lessons learned.
- Plan and coordinate internal and external HSE audits (NOSA, ISO, legal and corporate) including schedules, readiness plans and auditor logistics.
- Coordinate audit execution with the HS Business Partners and Environmental Specialist across all operational areas
- Consolidate findings from PTOs, coaching, near-miss reports, inspections and incident investigations into a single central action register.
- Assign each action to the responsible HS Business Partner, Environmental Specialist or line manager, with clear owners and due dates
- Produce monthly and periodic compliance, audit and action-closure reports showing open, closed and overdue status.
- Compile and submit statutory and corporate HSE returns within required timelines.
- Maintain HSE procedures, legal registers, permits and certification trackers in a current and controlled state.
- Administer document control, ensuring versions, approvals and distribution are managed and traceable.
- Ensure sound governance, measurement and reporting of HSE compliance and audit activities.
- Monitor the closure and effectiveness of corrective actions across fire, health, safety and environmental areas
- Verify firefighting equipment, hydrants, extinguishers and detection systems are certified, serviced, inspected and fit for purpose
- Extract and log audit findings, allocate them to the accountable areas of operation and maintain the master findings register
- Analyse recurring or systemic findings and refer root-cause issues to the relevant owners for resolution.
- Analyse trends across findings, near misses and non-conformances to surface recurring risks and improvement priorities
- Promote and adhere to Illovo's procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in an HSE, compliance or auditing role, ideally in a manufacturing, agribusiness or FMCG environment.
- Recognised HSE and auditing certification (e.g. NOSA/SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, ISO 14001/45001 internal auditor) and sound knowledge of OHS, environmental and fire safety legislation will be an added advantage.
