Police in Balaka have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly breaking into a house and stealing a 50-inch television in the township.

The suspect, Gift Mboma, was arrested on Saturday after detectives recovered the television from his house during an intelligence-driven operation.

Police say Mboma allegedly broke into the house of Cambridge Chiphwanya at Majiga 2 Location on June 16, 2026 and stole the Hisense plasma television.

Balaka Police Public Relations Officer Inspector Gladson M’bumpha said police launched investigations after receiving information that Mboma was keeping a television suspected to have been stolen.

Detectives searched his house on Saturday and recovered the 50-inch Hisense television.

Chiphwanya was later called to identify the recovered property and confirmed that it was the same television stolen from his house.

Mboma, who comes from Mtumbwe Village under Traditional Authority Kachenga in Balaka District, is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of burglary and theft.
