The fairways of Lilongwe Golf Club turned into a battleground of skill and teamwork as the Amayi Angathe Women Aspire team edged out stiff competition to lift the National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc Beyond Banking Invitational Golf Tournament title.

The Amayi Angathe Women Aspire team, made up of Esther Kawale, Vera Kamtukule, Justin Mkandawire and Anthony Kasunda, clinched victory after amassing 88 points, narrowly beating rivals in a tightly contested finish.

The tournament brought together 150 golfers drawn from the bank’s customers, business partners and stakeholders, in an event designed to blend competition with relationship building and networking under NBM plc’s Beyond Banking initiative.

The Banknet 360 Finest team of Duncan Mabona, Vincent Chirwa, William Mabulekesi and William Matambo finished second with 87 points, just one point behind the winners, walking away with K4 million and trophies.

My ITF, My Future Saving team of Golden Jamu, Maggie Banda, Andrew Mdoka and Widdy Msona settled for third place after collecting 86 points, earning K3 million and trophies.

Individual brilliance also lit up the course, with Ruth Mvula and Frank Mandala winning the Nearest to the Pin awards in the ladies’ and men’s categories respectively.

Esther Kawale and Sabil Jussab dominated the Longest Drive contests in the ladies’ and men’s sections, each taking home K500,000.

Speaking during the prize presentation, NBM plc Interim Head of Retail Banking William Chatsala said the tournament was meant to deepen relationships between the bank and its stakeholders beyond traditional banking services.

He said National Bank of Malawi, as a diversified group with interests in insurance, stockbroking, capital markets and pensions, used the event to create space for informal engagement with customers and partners.

“This golf competition was about bringing together our customers and partners so that we could interact in a conducive environment where people can engage on a personal level,” he said.

As part of its support for the sport, the bank also donated K5 million towards maintenance of greens at Lilongwe Golf Club, saying it remains committed to improving the golfing experience in the country.

Amayi Angathe team member Vera Kamtukule praised the bank for the organisation of the tournament, describing it as one of the most well-coordinated golf events she has attended.

She said the team’s victory was anchored on communication, trust and teamwork, which helped them stay consistent throughout the competition.
