Kawale Police have arrested two more suspects in connection with the robbery of a motorcycle worth K4.5 million in Area 17, Lilongwe.
According to Kawale Police Public Relations Officer Mabvuto Precious Phiri, the incident was reported on August 18, 2026, by Yohane Fred, 26, a motorcycle operator who told police that unknown criminals had robbed him of his red Jie Lin motorcycle.
Phiri said police initially arrested Shadreck Kaumphawi, 36, of Chepelani Village, Traditional Authority Njolomole in Ntcheu District.
“Following further investigations, detectives arrested two alleged accomplices, identified as Gift Shaibu, 33, of Zamasiya Village, Traditional Authority Makwangawala in Ntcheu District, and Tamandani Bonzo, 22, of Nsanama Village, Traditional Authority Tambala in Dedza District,” he said.
The two were allegedly implicated by Kaumphawi, the first suspect arrested, as his accomplices. The suspects allegedly posed as kabaza customers and hired the operator to take them to Area 17, where they attacked him at a secluded location before stealing his motorcycle.
Further investigations have also established that the three suspects are allegedly linked to another motorcycle robbery.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, including efforts to recover another motorcycle allegedly stolen by the group.
Police have since advised kabaza operators to avoid operating during late hours and to exercise caution when carrying passengers to isolated locations.
